New Orleans is known for its jazz music, parties, and delicious Cajun and Creole food. While all of these things are great, the food is the main reason why people travel to the city because every restaurant has there own spin on popular traditional dishes. Seafood is one of New Orleans top sellers; fish, crab, shrimp, crawfish, and oysters are all eaten everyday. Finding a place to taste this fantastic food will be easy; you will see dozens of restaurants everywhere that sell seafood when you tour some of New Orleans’ famous areas, such as the French Quarter. Choosing a good restaurant, however, is the challenge, but you can make things easier for yourself by going to a place that most tourists visit called the Acme Oyster House.
The Oyster House is a casual restaurant, but people who wear suits and ties stop by from time to time. The place gets huge crowds, and during some days, people will have to wait in a long line just to enter the door. Friday, however, is a good day to avoid this; you should plan your visit at around 11:00am.
Various types of seafood dishes are served at this seafood restaurant; however, other great foods are available as well. You can order spicy red beans and rice, hot Cajun gumbo, flavorful jambalaya with rice, chicken, and sausage, and more. If you have trouble deciding what to order, you should try a sampler plate. This particular plate has many small portions of the restaurants most popular dishes; sampling the food will help you make your decision in no time.
As for the seafood, everything cooked will be fresh from the ocean, which is a good thing. Oysters can be ordered either fried, grilled, or the most popular way, raw; all uncooked oysters are served at the bar. At the oyster bar, the bartender will shuck oysters for you to eat in a speedy manner; the moment you eat one oyster the bartender will already have another one prepared. The oysters will not be given to you on a tray; they are served in their shells on the counter. A cocktail sauce is also served with the oysters; it consists of a few ingredients, but the standout ingredient is the horseradish. Some guests like to use the horseradish sauce along with some Tabasco sauce to make their oysters very hot and spicy.
There is also an Acme Oyster House at the New Orleans airport, but many people do not like the food there. This restaurant is completely different from the one in The French Quarter. The rolls are extremely tough to chew; they are so hard that you might hurt your teeth. You should avoid eating at the airport’s Oyster House; The French Quarter restaurant is much better.
If you want to try great seafood and other dishes during your stay in New Orleans, The Acme Oyster House is a good choice. It is a very popular restaurant, so remember to visit at 11:00am on a Friday to avoid the crowd
